Bloch Brothers Tobacco Company was founded in 1879 in Wheeling, West Virginia. Makers of cigarettes and pipe tobaccos, they acquired the Christian Peper Tobacco Company in the early 1950s. Bloch Brothers themselves were acquired by the General Cigar and Tobacco Company in 1969, who in turn were acquired in 1983 by the Helme Tobacco Company. Bloch Brothers became a subsidiary of Swisher International, who bought Helme Tobacco in 1986.
